Adsorption Behavior of Acid-Treated Brazilian Palygorskite for Cationic and Anionic Dyes Removal from the Water

The effect of acid treatment on the adsorptive capacity a Brazilian palygorskite to remove crystal violet (CV) and congo red (CR) dyes was investigated. raw acid-treated by different HCl solutions (2, 4, 6 mol/L). modifications structure were investigated using X-ray diffraction, fluorescence, Fourier-transform infrared spectroscopy, N2 adsorption/desorption, thermogravimetric differential thermal analysis. efficiency CV CR adsorption investigated, initial concentration, contact time, pH, adsorbent amount analyzed. results revealed that in higher than material. A Langmuir isotherm model observed for behavior CV, while Freundlich verified adsorption. pseudo-second-order kinetics both dyes. at basic 97%, removal acidic 50%. parameters enthalpy (ΔH), entropy (ΔS), Gibbs energy (ΔG) evaluated. process predominantly endothermic occurred spontaneously. studied has mild-adsorption anionic dyes, samples effectively cationic
